True, that... those songs remind me strongly of autumn '94, lying in bed, taking Dog Man Star in (and at the same time I'd bought the USA version of Stay Together with all those amazing b-sides)... it really knocked me off my feet, that album, and it's still in my top3 records of all time to this day.
Daddy's Speeding did take me the longest to like, mind... at first I thought it was dull. The Asphalt World put a spell on me on first listen.
The album also was directly responsible for something I'd never seen before or since: a journalist apologising after an unfavorable review. This guy, from Dutch magazine Watt, completely trashed DMS when it came out, calling Brett Anderson a depressive dictator. Two or three months later he reviewed the New Generation single, and he came out and said he'd been totally wrong and the album's a masterpiece.
