thanks 2-J! it is a really great interview, beautifully interspersed with damon's westway references through time

I can't wait for his lonely hearts Russian synthesiser solo record

just sounds like a GBQ track, and the lyrical content is pretty crappy as it was with fools day

I dunno, I thought Fool's Day basically sucked but this sounds a lot more promising.

it does sound quite GBQ, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but I would like to hear the full band version, which we still haven't done yet... If Graham's guitars come out sounding like they sound in my head, the track could be brilliant.

the few times i've listened to the warchild performance of UTW on youtube it's given me a massive lump in my throat and VERY few songs do that to me...

so as far as i'm concerned - a pretty damn special song and i can only begin to imagine how good the full band, studio version will sound

yeah, I was very choked by it at the gig, the guitar makes a big difference, so can't wait to hear the full recording

Shame we didn't hear the recording itself, but it's good that Damon is proud enough of this song to perform it months ahead of the Hyde Park gig and makes me believe this will get it's own release, hopefully with a b-side closer to the olympics rather than just be jolted onto 21, if that is the tba track of course...

It does leave a lump in my throat too when I watch the War Child footage, beautiful!! The Damon on piano version tonight didn't get me the same way, not that it was bad, it wasn't, but the whole Damon/Graham emotional bond did help at the War Child gig and cannot wait to hear what difference the other two bring to the song, I think some people assume Graham will be playing an acoustic guitar, could be electric, who knows...

the thing is, for me, the fact it chokes me right up has absolutely nothing to do with seeing damon and graham onstage playing a new song together etc (as amazing and lovely as that was to see) it's the song itself that does it. the chords, melody and lyrics just come together in some kind of perfect storm to stir everything up emotionally inside.. hard to describe but very rare and pretty special.

Thanks a lot 2-J!

Really enjoyed that. Damon seemed in such a playful mood.

I wish I could visit 13 studios.

Ah, 2-J! I heart ya.

Gotta disagree with you crazies. Fools Day was a fine song, especially for being written/recorded in A DAY. Under the Westway should be great, too.

He says he's making a new record, and he doesn't like the term solo because it's lonely. So I have hope he'll call his mates in when he's got some demos together and they can thrash it out as a Blur album - that'd be the best way really - Alex and Dave wouldn't need to make too much sacrifice in terms of time.

Also - Caravelle became Plastic Beach partly because Gorillaz was a known brand and the record company could market it more effectively (we can argue about the reality of that record's promo elsewhere). I could certainly see the same thing happen with a record Damon's making that he isn't even sure of the outlet for (becoming a Blur record, not a Gorillaz record, just to be clear)

It's happened to two Neil Finn solo records already too (Woodface and Time on Earth).
