No. He already clarified this. If he was doing it for the money, there would (obviously) be more gigs, at least. You don't make that much money from one big show and a handful of others. Besides he probably has more money than the rest of Blur. And he appears to live relatively modestly.
Either he's doing it because he genuinely thinks it's a cool idea coinciding with the Olympics etc, or (just as likely) because he faced personal pressure to do it from the rest of the band and / or his management. And either way it's something he feels he can do without compromising artistically.
well, you don't if you put the show on yourself, but if you play to the corporates - the gig is funded by, amongst others, BT and the Olympic Committee - I'd imagine the pay is pretty good. It was reported to be £1 million just for Hyde Park in '09, and that was only sponsored by Live Nation. I still don't think that he's doing it for the money, although it's funny that he was careful not to declare Blur over until the gig sold out, but I should imagine they paid quite a lot to get Blur, with the sweetener that they get to choose the support acts. I don't know about you, but I got the impression that they considered the offer for some time before accepting.
