No. He already clarified this. If he was doing it for the money, there would (obviously) be more gigs, at least. You don't make that much money from one big show and a handful of others. Besides he probably has more money than the rest of Blur. And he appears to live relatively modestly.

Either he's doing it because he genuinely thinks it's a cool idea coinciding with the Olympics etc, or (just as likely) because he faced personal pressure to do it from the rest of the band and / or his management. And either way it's something he feels he can do without compromising artistically.

well, you don't if you put the show on yourself, but if you play to the corporates - the gig is funded by, amongst others, BT and the Olympic Committee - I'd imagine the pay is pretty good. It was reported to be £1 million just for Hyde Park in '09, and that was only sponsored by Live Nation. I still don't think that he's doing it for the money, although it's funny that he was careful not to declare Blur over until the gig sold out, but I should imagine they paid quite a lot to get Blur, with the sweetener that they get to choose the support acts. I don't know about you, but I got the impression that they considered the offer for some time before accepting.

Dave just said this on his Facebook page:

Don't believe everything you read in the papers this weekend.

Something to do with Damon's comments perhaps?

Hmm, well that is interesting, but why does he feel the need to say that if he is referring to Damon's statements? Are they deliberately toying with our fragile little minds? :?

Along with that statement he said 'but you can believe this' posting a link. The link has nothing to do with Blur, but that first comment must be regarding Damon's comments.

I'm inclined to think so. However, has anyone checked if Alex was out and about in the papers this weekend?

That's bollocks though, innit. One huge, guaranteed sell out, gig in London = guaranteed profit. They'll have been offered an absurd amount to play it. Tour of Academy venues or even arenas would probably struggle to break even.

Well, I don't see how we can't believe it. Damon was pretty clear and straightforward in his statements. Unless he was trolling with the journalist, that is.

Well who knows. Seems the message changes from month to month. Either way I'm looking forward to the Dr Dee album - love what i've heard.

I would rather blur do somehting if they actually want to do it rather than just wheel any old shit out for the sake of it.

But we'll just have to wait and see i guess.

Yeah, a small tour of non-sold out arenas probably wouldn't break even. They couldn't even sell out the MEN in 2009. Of a course one huge gig is going to make more money than several smaller ones. Christ. It's also no surprise that they are playing overseas festival as well, coz they pay much better.

Still they played 2 nights at Hyde Park in 09 as well as UK festivals so there was less demand by that point (re: the MEN).

They could also get on every Euro festival going (just about) as well as Coachella I'm sure. Not just 2 more obscure ones.
