look, as I'm sure a lot of you know - I say it enough - I am a big fan of most of Damon's recent projects, and love practically everything Graham has done, so I can be sustained perfectly well without Blur. I'd still love new Blur music more than new music from any other artist in existence, but I can live without it, if the four of them come to the mutual decision that it's not meant to be. The thing is, this doesn't look like that, it's Damon playing spokesperson, messing with fans and band members alike, when he didn't need to say anything at all.

As long as Damon has been in the public eye, the vast majority of people have thought he's an arrogant prick, and after years of justifying his behaviour, as a massive fan, I've come to the unhappy conclusion that he sure can be. He's alienated his two biggest creative collaborators - Graham and Jamie - at one time or another, and even following the emotional journey of 2009, the hope of just a few weeks ago, and in spite of the promised concerts and recording sessions, he's alienated Blur and Gorillaz fans, not with his proclamation that their favourite bands are over - people would have even tolerated that if it was a democratic decision - but out of his ill-considered, arrogant comments. I have lost no respect for Damon as an artist, but I have as a person, and that matters. To those that say Damon's comments are being over-analysed; perhaps they are, but he did make it fairly clear - John Harris asked him twice to clarify that he should print that 'Blur is over', and Damon said yes. Of course comments made by somebody who changed your life, on a subject that changed your life, will be over-analysed; Damon knows this, so the question remains, why did he make them?

even if blur don't do anything after Hyde Park that doesn't mean they're done forever. as with comments in 2003 that blur would never play shows again.. that all changed pretty quick. I would just take this as it comes and not get your feathers all ruffled.

oh and that new Graham album is pretty awesome btw. anyone else agree? kinda don't care about a new blur album at this point. I just want another Graham one.

sigh. maybe it's like one of those relationships where the only way to end it is by being painfully cold and neglectful. is that how he feels deep down regarding Blur? pity if so. clearly the man doesn't share our sentimentality...

...or he's completely bluffing, but that's an outside wager.

I don't know, maybe the post-2009 comments on Blur were too positive - he went as far as to say that Glastonbury was the best show Blur have ever done, and he will see that moment before he dies, as it is his most emotionally resonant and important memory as a musician. Maybe that's just too much to live up to, who knows? If that isn't the problem, and he still feels the same way as in 2009, ending something that he himself described as the most positive experience of his career seems totally illogical, but who knows?

it's funny that Damon's so evasive in interviews, as he couldn't be more personable and welcoming when he meets fans etc.; passing round his spliff and talking to people who have inexplicably ended up at the aftershow party... perhaps it's understandable, having been so misconstrued by the media in the mid-90s, but then he was responsible for that to a degree as well... hmm

i have to admit, that since the 2009 reunion gigs i get the impression that damon give the impression that he was somwwhat dragged to reunite with the blur boys.

i don't know if you all noticed it on NDLTR, but while the other boys looked very thrilled during the whole movie, especialy talking about the band getting back together and all, damon seemed like it's much of an effort for him to be really happy about it. he's excitement about it all looked a bit faked to me.
he doesn't seem like getting back with his old mates really and truly makes him happy.
one would have thought that getting in touch again with his brother-like-best-friend will sent him not least to cloud 9 but his comments about this and the tone of things that he used / uses seems to me a bit weak.

No. He already clarified this. If he was doing it for the money, there would (obviously) be more gigs, at least. You don't make that much money from one big show and a handful of others. Besides he probably has more money than the rest of Blur. And he appears to live relatively modestly.

Either he's doing it because he genuinely thinks it's a cool idea coinciding with the Olympics etc, or (just as likely) because he faced personal pressure to do it from the rest of the band and / or his management. And either way it's something he feels he can do without compromising artistically.

Jesus Christ, people on here seriously need to chill out. Damon's clearly not bitching about Dave and Alex; they have their own busy lives these days that's all. And why are people suggesting - can't remember who right now - that Blur might pull out of Hyde Park? Where the hell is that coming from? Some of you need to stop reading so deeply into every comment from the boys. I'll quote Graham in an interview he did recently with Hotpress magazine on the possibility of a new Blur album:

"Anything's possible, nothing is planned"

To reiterate, chill the fuck out everyone!
