Track isolation.

Postby saltandgin » Sat Mar 10, 2012 12:08 am

On youtube, there's been a spate of Beatles songs, that have had their instruments isolated..a pretty impressive feat considering a lot of the time, more than one instrument was played live together. (To save up tracks)

This might of come about from some production tool like Audacity(A highly expensive version?) , or maybe a studio leak from Abby road, after 2009's remasters?

But anyway, is it possible to do the same with Blur songs? I get the feeling, you'd need the original master tapes. But imagine being able to isolate the bass part in 'Entertain me' or the backward samples in 'He thought of cars'?

It would be good, and possibly could be done, depending on how it was recorded, though of course.

The stereo mixes for most of the Beatles catalog are really weird.
Everything's panned hard one direction or the other so it's probably way easier to do things like that.

When I was a kid, I would turn off one of my two speakers, (during rubber soul) and be able to listen, to just the rhythm tracks of a few songs.

Haven't heard that one but there's another of just the vocals from Oh! Darling on YouTube. Wonderful!

I'm not complaining, that vocal track of Gimme Shetlter....my god. Especially when the female singer (Merry Clayton) sings the "rape, murder, it's just a shot away" part and her voice breaks. Absolutely stunning.

I know, I know..If it was recorded today, every glitch would of been pro-tooled away.

But anyway, that girl sang beyond herself.

Yeah she did. Sad thing is though she suffered a miscarriage that night after recording the track. :(

I must be one of the few that doesn't enjoy track isolation. They just feel like stray pieces (and I could've done without the creepy "Gimme Shelter" :) ).
