Violent Assault at the Friday Hyde Park Gig

Hi;

I had the misfortune of being violently assaulted at the Friday Hyde Park gig. I would really appreciate anyone who witnessed the attack and is prepared to make a statement to the Police getting in contact with me, or with the MET if they do not want to do so anonymously.

I was the 5'8" guy wearing a white baseball top with blue sleeves. I have a full beard and shortish dark hair. I was attacked by a short guy with dark hair and a white top.

If you witnessed it you'll remember it because he came out of nowhere, to the surprise of everyone around, and started punching me in the head.

We were standing to the centre-back of the crowd, just behind and to the left (looking at the stage) of the centre screen. We were perhaps 15 meters in front of the gravel path running off to the left of the stage.

Thank-you to the guys behind me who help me up and offered to "help" should the guy return.

I would love for the police to catch this guy. I know who he is and the police are already involved, I just need impartial witnesses to make a statement.

This stupid effin idiot ruined the only Blur gig I had been able to attend, despite being a fan since year dot. In particular my girlfriend, who was also injured by this fool and has torn the ligaments in her foot, had been dreaming of this reunion gig since she was a teenager.

yeah what the fuck are people's problems. .. . i understand getting drunk and rowdy but this is ridiculous.

more shit like this keeps happening and no one will be allowed to have a pint at a show. or they'll start putting minimums or something.

I'm so sorry to hear what happened to you!! That must have been horrible. I didn't see what happened to you, but I also saw a few violent people, some had to be dragged away by four security people. I'd never seen anything like it at any gig.

Thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts.

I understand there was some knocking about being done at the front. However, we were at the back in a clear area far away from the pit and the bottles. This wasn't an incidental knock-about but a full-on attack in a quiet section of the crowd.

To JMBrilley, thank you very much. I will be sending you a picture of me, the shirt I was wearing and a picture of the guy who attacked me that we've managed to find. If you recognize any one of us I would be very grateful for your help, and I will pass on the crime reference number to you.

The MET will be investigating this as it occurred in Hyde Park, although you should be able to make a statement to your local Police station if you're not in London.

I saw a similar thing happen 2 weeks ago at a Paul Weller gig at Sherwood Pines, this pissed up fella came from nowhere and floored this other chap with one punch to the side of his eye..... poor guy was helped up and i guess a similar story where other people said they would help him etc..... he has a small cut to his eye and was dazed, i felt really sorry for him, if that had been me i may have just gone home crying......

^when i went to see weller at winter gardens, blackpool, there was a man and woman next to me who were looking for trouble from the start of the gig (luckily they didn't find any), there's always idiots wanting to fight at gigs, why would you do that, you're there to enjoy the music, it's like taking a shit on your birthday cake, there's no need.

p.s. the attacker is a blur fan, should we be so harsh on him? i jest, yes we should

I'd love to know too. Makes me really angry. One blow to the head is all it can take to kill someone - he needs to be stopped. God I hate people (well I don't - but you know what I mean)
