Dave has asked me to post the following:
| Quote: | I want to set the record straight following the bizarre and inaccurate piece in The Independent today.
As anyone who follows the band will know, we all have interests outside Blur. I am currently at law school, about to sit the exams for the first part of my training as a solicitor. I am fitting my studies around our preparation for the shows in the summer. I have one more year of academic training to complete, but if we decide to do more as Blur, I will obviously continue to fit my studies around the band and not the other way round. Whatever else I do, first and foremost I am a musician.
I have indeed worked for at an East London firm of (publicly funded) criminal defence solicitors. I was there (full-time) for a year up to September 08 when my current course started, and spent the time in courts and police stations around London representing those at the bottom of the pile. In general the courts spend much of their time prosecuting the homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics, and those with mental health problems, and there are few people willing to fight on their behalf. I believe it is worthwhile work. Three months of that time was spent helping in the defence of an innocent man on trial for murder at the Old Bailey, who, I'm glad to say, was acquitted.
My interview with The Independent was intended to help promote the campaign "Science: [So What? So Everything]" championed by the Science Minister Lord Drayson. The campaign is trying to encourage more young people to take up careers in science - something I am also passionate about, and my motivation for getting involved in the "Beagle 2" project some years ago.

Thanks, Tom.
Dave should register on the board and post here some time. Just joking. He has a lot of work. Good luck, Dave. _________________ I can live without men and sex. |

Thanks very much for posting that, and thankyou indeed to Dave for taking the time out to send the message.
It is indeed a very worthwhile thing you're doing and it's such a shame that your bid to publicly raise awareness may be overshadowed by "Dave quitting Blur" rumours.
Your personal life is not for the media or Blur fans, including myself, so I'm vary wary to comment, so I only hope I can extend a warm response saying that it's brilliant of you to support such a cause and I do indeed hope that people are inspired by your piece in The Independent and more people take their interests in Science through to a career.
I, for one, won't be as I know nothing about Science _________________ www.last.fm/user/merrymorgantown

all the best to dave - its a huge job task to take on. i'm unsure of daves political views on things, id rather not know the intricate details on it - i wouldnt want to argue with a member of blur!

Wow, thanks for the post.
It's a relief to read this part:

Dave x |
I guess that's what i wanted to hear from Dave and Alex since they started to go their own ways working on a farm or behind a desk. _________________ "All good people, your time will come..." |

It's a pity we don't hear Dave more often...
I guess it's not easy to raise your voice with Damon and Graham around, at least in public, I mean...
Thanks for the attention you have for us fans Dave, see you in Hyde Park.. _________________ Please don't kill our singer!!! |
