How come you can't change your username in the "Profile" ^ if you type a new one?

One would assume it's to make it easier for everyone to see who users are. It comes as a default to the board I think, but we turn it off to avoid people changing their names every day and confusing things. If you want your name changed, PM the admin, who may be able to help.

Trimmy is right, people might want to track your posts (i know its a bit big brother). But also changing your name frequently can be a technical nightmare, the admin might be able to change it.
I talk on twitter as well sometimes.

changing it isn't a problem. but its allowing options such as does your name change on all past posts? do they get wipped out? or does your name on your previous posts stay the same but you still have control over editing them?
what do you account for? every user will have a different account of what they think will happen when they change their own username, and if they regret the actions that have just occured, can they change it back so no one notices?
oh the joys.

Oh, really? I figured the name on the older posts would change and that they would still be able to edit their old posts and all that since the user id would be the same, just whatever name is in the name field would change. I guess kind've like when you change a sig or avatar or other static elements of a post. But I'm a layman so I'll follow the advice I give other people when they're talking about stuff they don't understand and shut my mouth.
