JETS: Good or Bad song

Postby baureeng » Fri May 09, 2003 7:09 pm

Once and for all, I want to know if by popular demand, the sax solo at the end of Jets, ruins it all, or it belongs there.

IMO, I like Jets the way it is.

I think it is the worst thing i ever ever heard on a blur album, jets is going great with the bass and drums combo, until the sax, anyone who admits to liking this part is just kidding themselves, im a veteran blur fan and love how they change all the time but this is just too much. The blur album had it just right with essex dogs, song 2, and death of a party all superb varied tracks, think tank is trying too hard to be clever, dont get me wrong i love most of it but sax sucks!

I think I know what happened with 'Jets'. Someone dropped a trip, mymbled out into the clear Moroccan evening, looked up at the sky, and, very quietly, went "Wheeeeee!" to themself. I like it. Jets are like comets at sunset, jets are like... oooh. I can feel that bit at the back of my jaw going now...

I don't like the sax. Use it in a good way or don't use it at all imo.

The song is awful. I dont really mind the sax solo but the song on the whole is just self indulgence (in the bad sense). sax = sex
space rhythm antique kiveman symbol overtune lukewarm squalor baby.

There are so many thing that come back from the 80s to haunt me. Frosted lipstick. Shoulder pads. Ra-ra skirts. Care Bears, the bastards. And now the sax. You can smell the 'Miami Vice' rolled-up jacket sleeves from here. But I've heard so much worse happen on a Blur album. Like 'Stereotypes'- OK so the chords are complicated but the song's a pile of piss. 'Topman'. 'It Could Be You'... (Me? Not like much of 'The Great Escape'? Surely you jest?). I like 'Jets'. There, I said it again. I don't care if I'm the only one. 8O *whistles*

Next you are gonna say He-man gives you waking tremors... Don't hate the eighties, there is lots of good once you get past the cigarette smoking rolled up socks fishnets under those "do I look like Tiffany?" babysitters!

Jets is good. How do I know? Because when the song started my two year old curly blond ran into the kitchen and did a Liam-esque monkey dance... wearing only a striped ski cap.

jets has a nice feel, but its hardly genious - they should have left it for a b side. i dont think the sax fits the song or belongs there, but i dont dislike it either... its interesting in its own way.

what amazes me is all the songs they talked about that were dropped from the record. i dont think the record sits easily as a complete whole and i dont love every track on it, although i do love the album. i just wonder why they left off songs that were supposed to be really strong saying they didnt sit well within the record when the record doesnt sit well anyway? DBWYTB was better than a couple of the songs that made it.

Oh come on! It's not a kenny G obnoxious sax, it's a jazz improvisational sax solo, I think it's good. Of course I've been in bands and orchestras my whole life so I guess I've learned to appreciate the saxaphone. It's an odd combination of styles but it works.
Woah! We have a kitchen?!?

I think there's something wrong with a Blur album if it doesn't provoke this kind of response from the fans. Although I have to say that it's the first album since 'Modern Life Is Rubbish' that I've completely liked straight away. Although if Damon continues to turn into Peter Gabriel I'll have to kill him for his own good.

I hate the sax solo!
I can't stand it.

If they had ended the song at 3 minutes with just the rpeeated lyrics it would be one of the best songs on the album, but the solo just doesn't mix in with the slow background music.
