What bands have you discovered recently?

Postby demondays » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:22 pm

This weekend just discovered Black Light Burns, which is the side project of Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland (although he did once say Limp Bizkit is now the side project). He takes vocals and it's more industrial/alternative rock than the rap/nu metal of the Bizkit, and it's really good. Example: Lie (from the album "Cruel Melody")

Also discovered Roadrunner United, a special project in 2005 from Roadrunner Records with 57 artists from over 40 bands collaborating on songs with 4 captains (Matt Heafy, Joey Jordison, Rob Flynn and Dino Cazares) It's metal so perhaps not the sort of thing you guys might like: The End (from the album "The All-Star Sessions")

Today decided to check out The Pretty Reckless, an alternative rock/post-grunge group fronted by Taylor Momsen that I saw briefly at Download. Thought they were good, had no idea she was only 17 (probably explains the tape she wears when she tends to get, er, "them" out during live performances). Example: Make Me Wanna Die (from the album "Light Me Up").

Any for you guys?

Well they're definitely not new but I just recently discovered how good the Specials are. (I always knew a few of their songs but I never decided to listen to their other ones)
And I thought Taylor Momsen was waaaay older than 17?! It must be that insane black eyeliner she wears... O.o

Yeah I thought she was in her 20s, turns out she's only about 3 and a half weeks older than me (she's 18 on July 23). At least it means that when she flashed at Download I was one of the few there that were allowed to look ;). Not sure whether the same could be said for the hairy mid-40s classic metalheads that may have been in the crowd.

Edited cos that tongue out smily "Razz" made the jokey post look a bit sinister.

I've re-discovered OK Go after a long break, and they're still wonderful. Also Friendly Fires and Foster The People. Not bad.

I'll have you know that Split Enz are one on the most perfect bands to ever come out of New Zealand, and the Finn brothers are treasured across the Trans-Tasman. Second only to Crowded House. Favorite song?

Picked up a Jamiroquai record recently at a yard sale for 50 cents, and I'm really digging it. It made me realize that I need more funky jamz in my music collection.

I've been listening a lot to Second Thoughts, so my favourite song would be Sweet Dreams.

Now checking out Fear and the Nervous System, an industrial rock group formed by James "Munky" Shaffer of Korn. Lineup as follows:

James Christian Shaffer (Korn) – guitars
Steve Krolikowski (Repeater) – vocals
Leopold Ross (io echo) – guitars, programming, production
Zac Baird (Korn live) – keyboard
Billy Gould (Faith No More) – bass
Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion etc.) – drums

They released a song for free download, "Choking Victim", on their official website: www.fatns.com - the song in question

After watching their Sonisphere set I've decided to check out Slipknot. Considering their genre I won't go any further with them.
